Alpha Omega "Saving the planet before it can be sent to hell, and bringing it back once it gets there"

Kladivo Personal Journal: Entry #5

[Translated from the original Czech]

Most of this day remains a blur in my memory. Too much. It is too much. To see Orlov again … working with Rodriguez. I knew he had no honor, no scruples, but I thought when I left Prague, we were done. He was in custody, and I was on my way to America. Lying dog that he is, he must have talked his way out of a jail sentence. Or more likely, bribed prosecutors and judges left and right to save his sorry skin. How he got free is no longer important, though. Orlov is dead, as is Rodriguez. And I am most fortunate I did not join him. I thank the God I no longer believe in that I was placed on Team Alpha Omega, for it was my team members that put those two down. I let my rage at Orlov get the better of me. I forgot my training, firing wildly and with little chance of hitting him … but I am wandering.

To business, then: after the botched assault on Rodriguez’ estate, we retreated to our safehouse to regroup and obtain medical attention. Conversation with Control developed a lead that there would be a “coffee” shipment at the docks. Having rested and bandaged ourselves as best we could in the time available, we went to the docks. Immediately we knew we had found the right place: the gate guard was dead. We approached the ship and found the guards there dead. We were fortunate to pick up the sounds of a truck being started nearby, and went to investigate. We found a truck bomb … no, not just a bomb. A nuclear device. BITCH, our team demolition expert, set to work defusing the device, while I attempted to start the truck, thinking at least I could drive it away from the population center before it detonated. We were almost done when Rodriguez and Orlov drive by, shooting up the place and taunting me. Having finished with the bomb and turned it over to a disposal squad sent by Control, we chased after Rodriguez and Orlov. ACHMED’s superior driving skills allowed us to catch them. I embarrassed myself in the ensuing shootout, letting Orlov get inside my head and spoil my aim. Fortunately, the rest of the team — ACHMED, BITCH, NIKITA, and SILVER — did their jobs and took both targets down.

One other item of note: HUNTRESS, who we earlier neutralized, has escaped. I expect we, or at least ACHMED, will see her again.

  • Mission Status: SUCCESS. Primary target BLOODHOUND retrieved. Secondary target HUNTRESS neutralized but escaped. Secondary targets Rodriguez and Orlov killed. Nuclear WMD rendered inoperative.

Orlov is here. Somehow, he has allied himself with our target, Rodriguez.

Using information gained from questioning target HUNTRESS, we took up position near Rodriguez’ Northside estate. Our plan was to wait until dark, then NIKITA and I would go over the estate’s electric fence and eliminate the guard patrols. SILVER would be on standby to render aid as needed. Simultaneously, ACHMED and BITCH would destroy the front entry to the estate with the explosives drone, and breach the front gate using a truck.

Things went mostly to plan, but we encountered far more competent guards than expected. We were able to gain entry into the house and make an attempt on Rodriguez, but did not take him down. He was ready and waiting, no doubt briefed on operational protocols from his torture of BLOODHOUND.

I was pursuing Rodriguez through the house but was stopped by Orlov, who guarded Rodriguez’ escape. It was he who triggered the building’s explosive charges, and nearly killed SILVER, NIKITA and I.

I sit here as we speed away from the estate. Both NIKITA
and SILVER are seriously injured – the former by Rodriguez, the latter by Orlov. He shot her purely to get under my skin. He toys with me, the wretch.

We will dig them out of their underground bunker, or trail them when they flee. And we will catch them. And I will make Orlov suffer before I kill him.

After retrieving “Bloodhound” from the cleaning facility, Dr. Leonid and I transported him to the safe house in Taylor. Debriefing revealed that Rodriguez has two estates – the large one that is his usual residence, and a small one that few people know about, at 626 W. Kirby St. Further investigation revealed that “Huntress” maintains a sailboat, and it is currently moored across the border at slip 101 of the Boblo Island marina in Windsor, Canada. After debriefing, we turned “Bloodhound” and the driver Vinny Moore over to Control agents and set off for the sailboat.

Dr. Leonid went across the border to the marina by car. I met up with “Achmed” and “Nikita”, and we crossed to the marina by boat. Using equipment obtained from Q branch, we jammed their cellphone signals. “Achmed” and I approached the boat in question, pretending interest in the boat’s manufacture. After bluffing the mate to turn his back, we attempted to silence him. I say we, but in fact it was my failure that nearly cost us the operation. It has been some time since I have worked with knives, and somehow I lost my grip and dropped my knife as I moved behind the mate. He was able to alert “Huntress”. Since Achmed and Dr. Leonid performed their tasks of silencing communication admirably, I believe she was unable to send out any sort of alert.

“Huntress” proved to be not only a formidable opponent, but a canny one, as a sniper she had placed on another craft did grievous injury to both Achmed and Dr. Leonid. If we had not had “Nikita” with us, I have no doubt we all would have died. As it was, only Dr. Leonid failed to survive the encounter. He died in combat and in full performance of his responsibilities as an agent. I recommend him for posthumous commendation.

We were finally able to subdue “Huntress” and kill her associates. Now we wait for the rest of Team Alpha Omega to join us. I am afraid we will receive a visit from the RCMP or the Windsor Police at any moment – surely the gunfire and explosion from the destruction of the boat’s satellite dish will not pass without a number of calls to the local authorities.

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
